  • Hardware Product Support Engineer

    Bladon are currently recruiting for a Product Support Engineer to join our dedicated team in Coventry. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an innovative Engineering Company, and use your skills and extensive knowledge within a supportive, engaging environment.

    The Product Support Engineer will prioritise, resource and deliver an efficient response to all product support requests, which may originate either from customers, internal service teams, our manufacturing teams, electronics manufacturing partners or internal test and development teams.

    Initially, this will be the only dedicated support engineer role within the Electronics Hardware team, it is expected that we may need to increase the level of support resources longer-term, giving this role the potential to develop into a leadership position.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • To define and implement a support request tracking system, to record, and prioritise all support requests, working closely with the Electronics Hardware Lead to allocate the work appropriately, and manage the swift, effective follow up and close out on all assigned actions.
    • To perform the component engineering function for the department, working closely with the CEM to identify and validate alternative components, as well as managing a timely response to all electronic component obsolescence warnings such that continuity of supply is unaffected.
    • To be responsible for the creation of all product support documentation in relation to the electronics hardware within the product, including, but not limited to, construction of training materials for the sales and support teams, providing content for sales presentations, brochures, product manuals, etc.
    • To prepare and deliver training to sales and support teams, manufacturing teams, test and development teams to improve familiarisation with the design, construction and operation of the electronics within the MGT products.
    • To be the first point of contact within the electronics hardware team to field all requests for information, answer any questions on the design and/or operation of the electronics hardware.
    • To co-ordinate engineers in investigation and repairs for any reported defective products, supported primarily by the integration and test engineer, with secondary support from design engineering team in the event that the presence of a design defect in one of more electronic modules is suspected.
    • To operate all equipment in a safe and effective manner.

    Qualifications & Experience:

    • The ideal candidate will already have experience in working within an electronic product support function. Consideration would also be given to candidates with a purely electronics technician background, or new graduates in electronics design related subjects. Nb. Candidates having product support experience but not having electronics product knowledge would not be considered suitable and should not apply.
    • Able to read and understand wiring diagrams, and to read and understand electronic schematics.
    • Experience in working within a component engineering function, having a good understanding of electronic component functions and key parameters, able to calculate the operating point of a component within an electronic circuit, and to select and/or validate potential alternative components.
    • Proven ability to organise, structure and deliver on a large, varied and rapidly changing set of tasks.
    • Strong written and verbal communications skills, able to understand and manage stakeholder expectations, consistently delivering on commitments.
    • Ability to prepare clearly written, easy to understand technical content for product manuals, sales materials, presentations, etc.
    • Experience of preparing and successfully delivering technical training on electronics products, to audiences of technical and non-technical backgrounds would be preferable.
    • Experience to assemble and co-ordinate small groups of engineers in the investigation and resolution of problems involving large electrical and electronic systems.

    Bladon Micro Turbine are recruiting for a Stress Engineer to join our dedicated team in Coventry. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an innovative engineering Company, and use your skills and extensive knowledge within a supportive, engaging environment.

    To work as part of the analysis team, you will support the work packages as required and mentor junior stress engineers. Providing specific in-depth technical expertise for design, with responsibility for the integrity and lifing of new products and components from concept through to delivery and into service. Also providing complete and detailed analysis reports to support product certification to tight timescales with support from the Analysis Team Leader and management colleagues.

    Key Responsibilities;
    • Provide general Stress and thermal analysis support to the design engineering team
    • Responsible for undertaking the steady-state and dynamic Thermo-mechanical analysis of a micro-gas turbine and heat exchanger
    • Mentoring and providing support to junior analysts
    • Undertake steady-state & Dynamic structural analysis of generator enclosure, support structure and other ancillaries
    • Feedback results of analysis into the design team and recommend improvements as part of concurrent design practices
    Qualifications & Experience;
    • Relevant Engineering degree is preferred or HNC, BTec Professional Level 4 Award or equivalent NVQ Level 4 qualifications
    • Demonstrable experience acting in a Stress role
    • Ability to use ANSYS is essential. Experience with PATRAN would be desirable but not essential
    • Excellent general understanding of the mechanical design principles of fabricated structures; welds, bolted joints etc is essential
    • Good understanding of mechanical and thermals stresses within turbomachinery and heat-exchangers is also a necessity
    • Experience of using industry best practice to create analysis methods.
    • Ability to undertake lifing and integrity calculations using best practice and from first principles is essential
    • Experience of leading a team preferred but not essential
    • Excellent MS Office skills and experience of giving technical presentations during design reviews would be advantageous
  • Embedded Software Engineer

    The right candidate will work as part of the Software team, to maintain/enhance/test/document Simulink control models applied to Bladon products and work in a model based development environment. This involves working in small cross functional teams to deliver products to mass market.

    Key Responsibilities;
    • Responsible for high level MTG control strategy in Simulink
    • Diagnosing and analysing data logs of system to identify issue root causes
    • Maintaining MIL test system in Simulink
    • Peer reviewing other engineers work
    • Assisting in software process development
    Qualifications & Experience;
    • Engineering related Degree qualified with at least 5 years’ relevant industry experience
    • Demonstrable experience working in a small/medium sized company delivering production software using mathworks toochain
    • Expert user of mathworks products applied to embedded applications
    • Experienced in application of classical control techniques to production systems
    • Strong industry experience developing/testing code in a Simulink model based environment
    • Demonstrable experience applying MIL/HIL development to a production product
    • Experience using CAN bus analysis tools (Vector/Busmaster)
    • Configuration management tool usage and experience utilising (GIT, SVN)
    • Exposure to software design applied to motor control and power conversion
    • Understanding of Texas Instruments TMS320 processor family
    • Team player – working in a small software team and in cross functional teams to deliver Bladon products to mass market
